Background
Each year, the US Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Programs allocates funds to the Arkansas Coalition for Juvenile Justice and the Division of Youth Services. These funds are used to assist local communities in their efforts to prevent or decrease juvenile delinquency. The grants, as authorized by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974 and reauthorized in 2002, are to assist states in planning, establishing, operating, coordinating and evaluating projects directly or through grants and contracts with public and private agencies for the development of more effective education, training, research, prevention, diversion, treatment and rehabilitation programs in the areas of delinquency prevention and improvement of the juvenile justice system.
Following are programs for which grants were awarded in the 2007-2008 grant cycle by the ACJJ and DYS, with review and approval by the Arkansas Legislative Council.
